A Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee, Dylan McDermott has proven his talent in film, television, and theater. He was born Mark Anthony McDermott in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Diane (Marino) and Richard McDermott. Diane was 15 and Richard was 17 when Dylan was born. Richard earned money by hustling pool. Dylan is of Italian (from his maternal grandfather), Irish, English, and French descent. During Dylan's early years, his parents separated. In 1967, when Dylan was five, his mother was murdered by her live-in boyfriend. The murder was initially ruled an accidental shooting occurring while her boyfriend cleaned his gun, but police reopened the case in 2012 and revealed evidence showing it was impossible for her death to be have been accidental. Dylan and his sister Robin, who was then six months old, were taken in by their grandmother, Avis (Rogers) Marino.
When Dylan was 15, his father met and married playwright/activist Eve Ensler. Eve adopted Dylan. Eve encouraged him to go to acting school and Fordham University in New York City. He met his now ex-wife, Shiva Rose, at a coffee shop in Venice, California, on the same day he got a big acting break by being cast in the film In the Line of Fire (1993) with Clint Eastwood. As a result of his connection with Eastwood, Dylan attended a dinner honoring Clint. There, he met Jeffrey Kramer, a man who used to frequent a bar where Dylan had earlier worked. Kramer was, at that time, the president of David E. Kelley Productions. He asked Dylan to meet David E. Kelley for a then-upcoming series about lawyers, The Practice (1997), and the rest is history. The series earned him a Golden Globe in 1999 and nominations in 2000 and 2001, as well as an Emmy nomination in 1999. Another mentor of Dylan is Joanne Woodward, who discovered him while he was doing workshops at the Neighborhood Playhouse.
His film credits include The Messengers (2007), by the Pang brothers (link=nm0659380 and link=nm0161152); Wonderland (2003); Home for the Holidays (1995); Steel Magnolias (1989); Hamburger Hill (1987); Miracle on 34th Street (1994); In the Line of Fire (1993); and Burning Palms (2010). McDermott's television credits include the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced TNT drama Dark Blue (2009) and TNT's dramatic limited series The Grid (2004), opposite Julianna Margulies.
In 2008, McDermott starred in Nicky Silver's "Three Changes" at Playwrights Horizons, starring opposite Maura Tierney. The play follows an uncomfortably married Upper West Side couple. Additionally, in September 2006, McDermott was on stage in Eve Ensler's new play "The Treatment." Ensler's play explored the relationship between a traumatized former military interrogator (McDermott) and his psychologist colonel, who is assigned to give him routine treatment. The play opened the Impact Festival 2006, a New York City-wide arts festival as part of the Culture Project. McDermott was nominated for a Drama League Award for his performance.
McDermott appeared on television in the first season of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's FX drama American Horror Story (2011), opposite Connie Britton and Jessica Lange.
McDermott co-starred in Jay Roach's comedy The Campaign (2012), opposite Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. McDermott played Tim Wattley, a political consultant who runs the campaign of a candidate from North Carolina. The Warner Bros. film was released on August 10, 2012. That year, McDermott was also seen in the indie coming-of-age drama The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), alongside Logan Lerman (McDermott played Lerman's character's father), Emma Watson, Paul Rudd, Ezra Miller, and Mae Whitman.
In 2013, McDermott had a supporting role in Antoine Fuqua's Olympus Has Fallen (2013), alongside Aaron Eckhart and Gerard Butler. The film followed a former Secret Service agent who becomes America's only hope when the President is taken hostage by terrorists.
McDermott's additional theatre credits include Neil Simon's production of "Biloxi Blues" on Broadway and "Golden Boy," directed by Joanne Woodward at the Williamstown Theater Festival.- Actress

The middle of seven children, she was named, not for the heroine of "As You Like It" but for the S.S. Rosalind on which her parents had sailed, at the suggestion of her father, a successful lawyer.
After receiving a Catholic school education, she went to the American Academy of Dramatic Art in New York, having convinced her mother that she intended to teach acting. In 1934, with some stock company work and a little Broadway experience, she was tested and signed by Universal. Simultaneously, MGM tested her and made her a better offer. When she plead ignorance of Hollywood (while wearing her worst-fitting clothes), Universal released her and she signed with MGM for seven years.
For some time she was used in secondary roles and as a replacement threat to limit Myrna Loy's salary demands. Knowing she was right for comedy, she tested five times for the role of Sylvia Fowler in The Women (1939). George Cukor told her to "play her as a freak". She did and got the part. Her "boss lady" roles began with the part of reporter Hildy Johnson in His Girl Friday (1940), through whose male lead, Cary Grant, she met her future husband, Grant's house-guest at the time.
In her forties, she returned to the stage, touring "Bell, Book and Candle" in 1951 and winning a Tony Award for "Wonderful Town" in 1953. Columbia, worried the public would think she had the female lead in Picnic (1955), billed her "co-starring Rosalind Russell as Rosemary." She refused to be placed in the Best Supporting Actress category when Columbia Pictures wanted to promote her for an Academy Award nomination for her role in Picnic (1955). Many felt she would have won had she cooperated. "Auntie Mame" kept her on Broadway for two years followed by the movie version.
Oscar nominations: My Sister Eileen (1942), Sister Kenny (1946), Mourning Becomes Electra (1947), and Auntie Mame (1958). In 1972, she received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for contributions to charity.- Bob Crane was born in Waterbury, CT, the youngest of two sons. In school he was known for being a class clown and an intense music lover. His favorites were jazz and big band. Bob's specialty was the drums. After graduating from Stamford High School in 1946, he turned his attention to his love for music. He became a drummer with the Connecticut Symphony Orchestra for about a year. He was later dismissed for not being "serious enough". In 1949 Bob married Ann Terzian, his high school sweetheart. They had three children - Robert David Crane, Debbie, and Karen. In 1956 Bob and his family left the east and moved out west to California. There he began a lengthy, successful career in radio. He worked at KNX radio and became "King of the Airwaves" in Los Angeles. His radio program became a huge success, the most listened to on the air. This was due to Crane's personality and humor. He had charm and an undeniable quick wit. Hollywood's biggest and brightest were frequently interviewed by Bob on his show, including Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Marvin Gaye, Mary Tyler Moore, and Bob Hope. In the midst of his success, Bob's true goal was to make it big as an actor. He began to make guest appearances on such shows as The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961) and The Twilight Zone (1959). He also appeared in the 1961 films, Return to Peyton Place (1961) and Man-Trap (1961). In 1963 Bob got a role on the popular The Donna Reed Show (1958), as "Dr. Dave Kelsey". After two years the producers let him go, saying his character was "too suggestive". This was no problem for Crane. In 1965 he received the starring role in a new sitcom for CBS called Hogan's Heroes (1965). It was a comedy about a group of POWs in a Nazi prison camp. He played the smooth-talking, crafty "Colonel Robert Hogan". Hogan's Heroes became a hit show, finishing in the top 10 at the end of the 1965-66 season. Crane was nominated for an Emmy twice, in 1966 and 1967. He had reached the peak of his success. It was during this time that Crane met Patti Olson, known as Sigrid Valdis. She played "Hilda" on Hogan's Heroes. Bob divorced his wife, Ann, after 20 years of marriage, and married Patti in 1970. They married on the set of "Hogan's Heroes". They had a son, Scott Crane, in 1971. Also in 1971, the new president of CBS abruptly canceled Hogan's Heroes after a 6-year run. Following the end of Hogan's Heroes Bob continued to act. However the roles were few and not very fulfilling. He starred in Superdad (1973) and Gus (1976), two Disney films, and had guest spots on shows, including Police Woman (1974), Ellery Queen (1975), and The Love Boat (1977). Bob briefly had his own show, The Bob Crane Show (1975), in 1975. Unfortunately, NBC canceled the show after 3 months. In 1973 Bob bought the rights to the play "Beginner's Luck". He both directed the play and starred in it. The play went around the country, including California, Texas, Hawaii, and Arizona. In June, 1978 Bob took "Beginner's Luck" to Scottsdale, Arizona. It was in Scottsdale that the unthinkable happened. In the early morning hours of June 29, 1978, Bob Crane was brutally murdered in his rented apartment room. He was beaten to death, while he slept, and strangled with an electrical cord. He was 49 years old. His murder remains unsolved.

Michael Bergin is perhaps best known as "Jack 'J.D.' Darius" on the internationally renowned hit series Baywatch (1989). An actor and model, Bergin has been featured in magazines and on billboards around the world. Growing up in the small town of Naugatuck, Connecticut, Bergin never considered modeling or acting. During his sophomore year at the University of Connecticut, a friend repeatedly urged him to try modeling. Although Bergin remained uninterested in modeling, he quickly learned that the industry's earning potential would greatly ease the financial burden of his college tuition. With the demands of work growing and the commute to New York becoming more frequent, Bergin decided to spend the summer after his junior year in Manhattan working full time. Although his career quickly took off, Bergin chose to complete his education at the University of Connecticut, graduating with a degree in business marketing. One month later he moved back to New York permanently. In search of a fresh face to replace Mark Wahlberg as his underwear model, Calvin Klein chose the relatively unknown Bergin to appear both solo, and with Kate Moss in jeans, underwear and suit advertisements. From that moment on, Bergin's career took off. Bergin has walked the runways of New York, Paris and Milan for Sonia Rykiel, Valentino, Calvin Klein, GianFranco Ferre, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent and Donna Karen and was the exclusive model for Claiborne for Men, a division of Liz Claiborne, Inc., for over three years. He has also appeared in commercials and print advertisements for Kellogg's, Bacardi Rum, L'Oreal, Maybelline, Coty, Valentino, Perry Ellis, and Liz Claiborne. In addition, Michael has completed correspondent work for E! Entertainment Television, Entertainment Tonight (1981) and VH1. Ed Parks was born to Edwin Rose Parks "the first" and Rosabel Mosley Parks of Waterbury, Connecticut. His father died in the 1919 flu epidemic, leaving Ed to be raised single-handedly by his mother, Rosabel (Rosa). He attended Driggs Grammar School in Waterbury, and developed an early talent for drawing, as well as an interest in aeronautics. He and his mother moved to Watertown when Ed was in Junior High, and he then attended Watertown High School (Connecticut). He was encouraged by his art teacher, H. Louise Johnson, to paint a mural in the High School basement gymnasium. The mural was an idealized history of the world, from the dinosaurs through present civilization. Around this time, he received his first freelance art job--drawing a small concept sketch for the patent papers of the very first Mickey Mouse watch, made by the Ingersoll Watch Company, of Waterbury. After high school, he attended Yale University Art School, with the idea of being a mural painter. During this time, he answered an ad posted on a bulletin board, "Disney Needs Artists." This soon led to his moving to California and a job at Disney, at the original Hyperion studio location, and then at the "new" (present) studio in Burbank. As did many animators, he began as an in-betweener, then as an assistant, and spent many years as an effects animator before moving into character animation on both features and many short subjects.
World War II saw him join the Navy, where he continued to work in animation on training films and ultimately top secret work for the Allied Invasion of Europe. During his time in the Navy, he met and married fellow Art & Animation Department Photographic Specialist Leah Bowlby. Following the War, the couple returned to California--(Leah is a California Native) Ed returning to Disney (Walt remarking, "Ed! When did you get back?!" and Ed replying, "I've been back for six weeks!"), and Leah finishing an education in Art at UCLA and becoming a high school art teacher until the birth of their son, Gary, in 1962.
Ed continued for Disney until 1960, with a half-year interlude circa 1956, where he was hand picked by Walt to go over to Paramount to work with Cecil B. DeMille as the effects animator for "The Ten Commandments." The Pillar of Fire, though not originally designed by Ed, was reworked by him, and its style and final look bears his hallmark. After this, he returned to Disney--with his final most distinct artistic flourish for the company being the design for the unique yellow smoke curling out of Cruella DeVil's cigarette in 101 Dalmatians.
Due to an opportunity for higher pay and more creative freedom, Ed left Disney and joined Hanna-Barbera, remaining there until his retirement from animation in 1978. A feature film for which he did extensive animation is Charlotte's Web, probably his favorite project with Hanna-Barbera, along with the much earlier Johnny Quest TV series. Another show which bears a large amount of his work is Scooby Doo, for its first couple of seasonal incarnations. Others of lesser renown include Hong Kong Phooey, the Great Grape Ape, Speed Buggy, Jeannie, and Wait 'Til Your Father Gets Home.
Between his retirement from animation in 1978 and his passing in 1999, Ed painted and sold oil and acrylic paintings through local art galleries, taught painting privately, revived his interest in aeronautics with designing and building model airplanes, and spent time with his family. He is memorialized by a military style plaque on the Veterans Wall at Pleasant Hills Memorial Park in Sebastopol, California. His son, Gary, still has Ed's 1941 Disney animation desk (in use as a drawing desk) to this day.- Actress

Two-time All-Star Jimmy Piersall was an artist with the glove in his 17-year career in the American League, mostly as a center fielder. An outstanding high school athlete in baseball and basketball, the 18-year-old Piersall was signed as a free agent by the Boston Red Sox. After two seasons in the minors, he came up to the parent club for a cup of coffee at the end of 1950. He made the Red Sox for good in the 1952 season, but it was then that his mental condition (bipolar disorder) manifested itself.
Piersall's treatment for mental illness was detailed in his autobiography, Fear Strikes Out, which was made into a popular movie in 1957.
Piersall, who won two Gold Gloves for his fielding excellence, played for Boston until 1958, after which he was traded to the Cleveland Indians. Traded to the Washington Senators for the 1962 season, he was traded to the New York Mets during their sophomore season during 1963, after which he was cut by manager Casey Stengel, upset by his running the bases backwards after hitting his 100th home run at the Polo Grounds. He caught on with his third team in '63, the Los Angeles/California Angels, for whom he appeared as a utility man through 1967.
After his pro career was over, he worked for the Angels front office, as well as for the Oakland A's. He became a TV announcer with Harry Caray for the Chicago White Sox, but was fired in '81 for his criticisms of White Sox management. He worked as a minor league instructor through 1999. As of 2007, Piersall has a sports radio show in Chicago.- Actor
